Album Info: | I have four slides dated August, 1970 that show a mainline steam excursion departing westbound from Paoli, PA on the old PRR mainline. Locomotive is labeled the Quakertown & Eastern #4. Some Google research reveals that it's former Buffalo Creek & Gauley 2-8-0 #4, which was owned by Francis Ede of Quakertown, PA., and he ran it under the banner of fallen flag Quakertown & Eastern, a former short line through upper Bucks County, PA from Q-town to some quarries near Riegelsville, PA on the Delaware River. (The Q&E was referred to by locals as the "Quick and Easy". ) This actually solves a mystery for me. I never knew the origin of that steam locomotive I remembered seeing and photographing back in the summer between my junior and senior years in high school. From other photos I see on this website, BCG #4 is now preserved down in Spencer, NC. The trainset I saw in Paoli that day was made up of old Reading Company coaches.
